Nice to meet you
I am Kristen Nielsen Schrass a mother, a writer, an educator, and an entertainment professional who loves reading, listening, watching, and engaging in it all alongside my son.
I am writing this blog, KID CONTENT NOW, because it is a resource I’ve needed as a mom. Due to the current pandemic, earlier this year, overnight, I became a stay-at-home mom, which has meant trying to find more ways to entertain and engage in activity with my son, while mostly staying safe at home. We have found new ways to play, and thanks to all the brilliant Pinterest posting parents who share their kid projects, some awesome fun D.I.Y. arts & crafts projects. These projects have been life savers, and have made the dullest days fun and special. But all these activities have often required buying things like googly-eyes and pipe cleaners, supplies I don’t always have at home, and planning, set-up, and clean-up, for an activity that lasts 15 minutes max. I can’t do that everyday and on those days, I have needed a resource like KID CONTENT NOW. My goal is that KID CONTENT NOW will help you: a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or anyone who loves and engages with a kid, know what you can do with your child in a present and meaningful way right now by just picking up a book, tablet, or turning on the tv, no glue-mess necessary.
Some of my favorite childhood memories with my parents were when we were engaging in content together. I will never forget enjoying hours in an oatmeal bath while I had chicken pox and my mom reading me all the AMELIA BEDELIA books. Or the laugh attacks I would have with my brother, and dad, as we all raced to find Waldo first. Or sitting down on a Friday night with both my parents to watch ABC’s T.G.I.F. and enjoying a laugh and learning moment with the likes of D.J., Stephanie, and Michelle Tanner. And I will never forget knowingly annoying my older brother to death, but bringing smiles to my parents and me, as I sang at the top of my lungs to every song, along with Sharon, Lois, and Bram, on THE ELEPHANT SHOW. Those were the happiest memories and the greatest joy is knowing that I am already making similar memories with my son.
